Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Sunday inaugurated the newly elected local government chairmen following their victory in Saturday’s polls.
The elections saw the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinch all chairmanship and councillorship positions, a clean sweep hailed by the party as a testament to its popularity.
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the process, alleging non-compliance with electoral laws.
Addressing journalists in Gusau, the party’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, said the APC boycotted the polls due to irregularities.
“We have since filed our case at the Federal High Court here in Gusau to challenge the legality of the election,” Idris stated.
The swearing-in ceremony followed shortly after the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, Bala Gusau, presented certificates of return to the elected chairmen.
In his address, Governor Lawal praised the electoral commission for conducting what he described as a credible, free, and fair election.
He reaffirmed his commitment to local government autonomy and urged the new chairmen to collaborate with his administration in delivering good governance.
“I urge you to form a formidable team and join my administration in working for the development of the state, especially in fulfilling my seven-point agenda,” Lawal said.
“I want you to always remain in your domain and attend to the needs of your people.”
The governor expressed gratitude to Zamfara residents for their unwavering support, pledging to work tirelessly to transform the state.
“I want to thank the people for the continuous support and cooperation they have been giving to my administration in its quest for a prosperous Zamfara,” he said.
“I can assure you that I will do my very best to build a new state which every one of you will be proud of.”
The newly sworn-in chairmen are expected to commence work immediately, focusing on grassroots development in line with the administration’s agenda.
