A non-governmental organisation, Beta Nigeria, has engaged and empowered media influencers in Jigawa State to drive positive change in the education sector.
Hajiya Aida Isah, a team member of Beta Nigeria, disclosed that the two-day capacity-building training was conducted through PLANE and funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.
According to her, Beta Nigeria’s education campaign advocates for solutions to teacher shortages, the out-of-school children crisis, and improved accountability in education spending in the state.
“The training equipped journalists, social media influencers, and education advocates with the skills to use media as a tool for change amplifying critical education issues and holding policymakers accountable,” she said.
She further noted that participants engaged in discussions on education policy, systemic challenges, and the role of media in advocacy.
Experts from CSACEFA and Beta Nigeria led sessions on education accountability, storytelling for impact, and leveraging media for effective policy engagement.

The training also featured practical content creation, with participants developing powerful advocacy videos highlighting the urgent need for increased investment in teacher recruitment, training, and education policies.
A key highlight of the workshop was the presentation of video advocacy content, where participants showcased their storytelling skills and aligned their messages with national and international education advocacy moments.
The workshop reinforced the media’s role in shaping public discourse, urging journalists and influencers to use their platforms to demand urgent action from policymakers on education reforms.
Hajiya Aida reaffirmed Beta Nigeria’s commitment to championing quality education for all Nigerian children, advocating for policies that address the education crisis.
She encouraged all stakeholders, media practitioners, and advocates to join the movement and push for meaningful change.
