The Civil Society Coalition on Security, Peace, and Conflict Resolution (CSPSCR) has expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the people of Majia town, Ringim Emirate, and Jigawa State, following a devastating tanker explosion in Taura Local Government Area that claimed multiple lives and left many others injured.
In a press release issued on October 17, 2024, the coalition conveyed its solidarity with the Jigawa State Government, praising Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his prompt response in coordinating relief efforts.
The CSPSCR commended the governor for ensuring medical treatment for the injured and providing support to the grieving families.
“We stand united with the Jigawa State Government and the entire community during this painful time. The swift actions of emergency responders, healthcare professionals, and volunteers are highly appreciated,” said Muhammad Musbahu Basirka, National President of the CSPSCR.
The coalition also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a national day of mourning in honour of the victims.
“This tragedy deserves nationwide solidarity, and we urge the federal government to provide the necessary support to the victims’ families and assist in rebuilding the affected community,” Basirka added.
In addition, the CSPSCR stressed the need for a continuous public awareness campaign to educate the public about the dangers of tanker explosions and similar incidents.
They recommended engaging key stakeholders to emphasize safety protocols and preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
The coalition also encouraged Nigerians to offer prayers and extend support, both medical and psychosocial, to the survivors and the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
This call for national unity and reflection comes as the people of Jigawa and the nation continue to grapple with the magnitude of the disaster.
