A violent attack on Gidan Na Ruwa Fulani Settlement in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State has left destruction in its wake, with 24 thatched houses and 16 local granaries set ablaze following a communal clash between warring Hausa and Fulani groups.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, was confirmed by the Jigawa State Police Command on Tuesday.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed that the police had raided the areas and arrested five suspects in connection with the violence.
According to Adam, the attack was carried out by youths from Zangon Maje Village in retaliation for an earlier assault on two individuals, Musa Hussaini and Shanu Sule, whose motorcycle was snatched.
“The youths, who were allegedly seeking revenge, descended on the settlement, setting fire to houses and granaries,” he stated.
The Divisional Police Officer of Taura and his patrol team responded swiftly, restoring normalcy and intensifying patrols in the area to prevent further violence.
The PPRO warned against mob justice, urging citizens to report grievances to the appropriate authorities.
“Citizens are advised to direct their complaints to the appropriate authorities for a timely and prompt response,” Adam stated, adding that those found culpable would be dealt with accordingly.
The Jigawa State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in the affected areas.
