Councillor Resigns in Jigawa, Cites Political Conflicts and Commitment to Progress

In a move that has sent ripples through the local political scene, Sagir Salisu Kila has tendered his resignation as the elected councillor for Kila Ward, Gwaram Local Government, Jigawa State, citing ongoing conflicts with the local government chairman and a belief that his continued presence would hinder the development of his constituents.

In his resignation letter dated 19th November 2024 and addressed to the Speaker of the Gwaram Local Government Council, Kila explained his decision as one made after “thoughtful consideration” of the situation, which he believes would result in “losing many opportunities to the people I represented in this Honourable House.”

He further emphasised that stepping down was necessary to allow “peace and progress” to prevail.

Kila expressed gratitude to the executive Governor of Jigawa State and the APC stakeholders of Gwaram Local Government for their trust in his leadership, acknowledging their role in helping him rise to represent the people of Kila Ward.

However, he made it clear that his decision was driven by a deep commitment to ensuring his ward’s development, stating, “This will not hinder me in actively participating in moving Kila Ward and Gwaram Local Government forward politically.”

In a heartfelt apology to the people of Kila Ward, the former councillor sought forgiveness for what he described as a “disappointment” in not being able to fulfil their expectations, adding, “I want to ask the forgiveness of my ward people (Kila Ward) for disappointing your trust and faithfulness upon me.”

Kila’s resignation is expected to shift the local political dynamics as key stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the region are now faced with addressing the void left by his departure.

The letter was also copied to the Kila APC Chairman, the Gwaram Local Government APC Chairman, and notable figures within the party, including the Jigawa State APC Chairman and member of the state House of Assembly.

In the meantime, local political observers are closely watching the impact of this resignation on the governance of Gwaram Local Government, with questions now arising over the future direction of the APC in the region and the fate of ongoing development projects.

Kila’s resignation underscores the challenges often faced by elected officials in balancing internal party politics with the demands of constituency representation.

His future involvement in Gwaram’s political landscape remains uncertain, but his commitment to local progress appears unwavering.
