El-Rufai Alleges Imminent Arrest Amid Feud With NSA

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has claimed he is hearing rumours of his imminent arrest, detention, and torture at the National Security Adviser’s (NSA) office.

El-Rufai’s revelation comes amid a heated exchange between him and NSA Nuhu Ribadu following a viral video in which PDP chieftain Naja’atu Muhammad alleged that Ribadu once called President Bola Tinubu corrupt during his tenure as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ribadu denied the allegations through his lawyer, Dr. Ahmed Raji (SAN), describing the claims as “unquantifiable damage” and demanding a public apology.

However, El-Rufai fired back on his X handle, accusing Ribadu of “serious amnesia” and citing Senate proceedings from 2006 and a Daily Trust report from February 2007 as proof of Ribadu’s past comments.

While responding to concerns raised by a supporter on X, El-Rufai alleged that threats of his arrest had persisted since July 2024, following the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s indictment of him for fraud. He vowed to remain in Nigeria despite the looming threat.

“They have sent similar messages of intimidation and threats through my friends, family, and political associates because they want me to go on self-imposed exile. I will not,” he stated.

The former governor also declared his intention to return to Nigeria for the launch of President Ibrahim Babangida’s memoirs, scheduled for 20 February.
