In a landmark policy shift, Ghana is set to become a visa-free destination for all African nationals starting in early 2025.
President Nana Akufo-Addo approved the policy change in December, fulfilling a commitment made during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues.
The president highlighted that the initiative aims to foster “stronger ties across Africa” and enhance regional unity.
This move is expected to significantly boost tourism, trade, and travel in Ghana, addressing long-standing concerns that visa restrictions have hindered economic growth in these sectors.
Ghana currently allows visa-free entry for citizens of 26 African countries, with visas on arrival granted to travelers from 25 others.
Only two African nations require visas before arrival. By removing all visa requirements for African nationals, Ghana joins Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin as the fifth African country to offer unrestricted visa-free access to holders of African passports.
This development marks a significant step toward improving regional integration and mobility across the continent, potentially setting a precedent for other African nations to follow.
