In a significant boost to education and staff welfare, the College of Education (COE), Gumel, has commended Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, for his decisive intervention in addressing long-standing issues affecting the institution.
The Governor recently approved the disbursement of ₦17,028,000 to settle outstanding entitlements of 203 casual workers whose payments were halted in 2013.
The development has been widely praised as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of the workforce and enhancing educational standards across the state.
The college’s Registrar, Malam Bala Isyaku, disclosed the update in a statement issued to journalists, highlighting that payments commenced on Friday, 22nd October 2024.
Beneficiaries, following a meticulous screening process, received their payments via UBA Bank’s online platform.
However, 14 eligible individuals have yet to appear for the screening, and the college management has urged them to complete the process promptly to claim their entitlements, as approved by the Governor.
The Provost of the College, Dr. Nura Muhammed Ringim, expressed gratitude to Governor Namadi, lauding his dedication to transforming the education sector.
“This gesture reflects the Governor’s commitment to resolving entrenched challenges and fostering a conducive environment for educational growth in Jigawa State,” he said.
Dr. Ringim further noted that this intervention is part of a broader strategy by the Governor to empower educational institutions and prioritise staff welfare, setting a benchmark for governance in the state.
The settlement of the casual workers’ entitlements brings an end to a decade-long plight faced by the affected workers.
Since the suspension of their payments in 2013, many have struggled to receive their dues.
Governor Namadi’s initiative not only provides financial relief but also restores confidence in the government’s resolve to address historical grievances.
“The Governor’s action is more than just financial support; it is a morale booster that reinforces the value of education and the people driving it,” Malam Bala Isyaku stated.
