Jigawa Governor Honoured For Commitment To Education On World Teachers’ Day

In a heartfelt celebration of World Teachers’ Day 2024, the Jigawa State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has recognised the contributions of the Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, to the advancement of education in the state.

The event took place at the Banquet Hall of the State Government House, attracting prominent government officials, educational stakeholders, teachers’ union leaders, politicians, and members of the public.

The leadership of the NUT presented Governor Namadi with the prestigious “Educator of the Year” award, commending his relentless efforts to elevate educational standards in Jigawa.

They highlighted his administration’s commitment to hiring approximately 7,000 teachers and allocating 32% of this year’s budget to the education sector.

Furthermore, they praised the governor for sponsoring 184 students from Jigawa to study medicine and engineering in Cyprus, demonstrating a proactive approach to fostering higher education opportunities.

The NUT also applauded various infrastructure projects aimed at renovating schools and enhancing educational facilities throughout the state.

Speaking at the event, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel, Governor Namadi expressed his gratitude to the teachers’ union for their recognition and acknowledged the significance of the honour.

He remarked, “It is no small feat to be recognised by the very individuals who play a crucial role in the development of our nation and the building of our communities.”

The governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving the living conditions of teachers and further advancing educational initiatives in Jigawa.

This recognition not only celebrates Governor Namadi’s contributions but also highlights the collective efforts of teachers in the state, underscoring their vital role in shaping the future of education in Jigawa.
