The Jigawa Internal Revenue Service (JIRS) has conducted a one-day sensitisation workshop for accountants from various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) across the state.
The event aimed to familiarise financial officers with the newly developed digital tax payment system, the Jigawa Integrated Tax Administration System (JIGTAS).
Speaking during the workshop, the Executive Chairman of JIRS, Dr. Nasir Sabo Idris, highlighted the benefits of the innovative platform.
He said, “The purpose of this gathering is to bring all accountants and other financial officers in the state’s ministries, departments, and agencies up to speed on how to use the newly developed digital payment platform called Jigawa Integrated Tax Administration System (JIGTAS).
“The workshop will also educate participants on the steps required to use the new system, from initial input to the generation of digital receipts, ensuring that all payments are accurately recorded in the state government’s financial profile.”
Addressing concerns over the issue of multiple taxation, Dr. Idris assured attendees that the JIRS has harmonised tax processes in collaboration with stakeholders at the state and local government levels, as well as private organisations.
“We have consolidated the system to ensure taxpayers do not make double payments,” he explained.
Dr. Idris urged participants to embrace the new digital system, emphasising its alignment with the state government’s commitment to infrastructural development.
He also praised the administration of Governor Malam Umar Namadi for its steadfast support of the board’s initiatives.
The workshop underscores Jigawa State’s efforts to modernise its revenue collection process, aiming for greater transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
