Jigawa Hosts Maiden Youth Summit on Agriculture and Climate Change

In Jigawa State on 15th of May, 2025, the young farmers and other stakeholders in agriculture and climate change assembled for a one-day summit on Agriculture and Climate Change, with the theme “Quest for Climate-Smart, Productive, Profitable and Sustainable Farming Systems in Jigawa State”.

The programme was organised by a Civil Society Organisation called Green and Environmental Project Initiative (GEPI) with the support of the Jigawa State Government.

According to the State Lead of the organisation, Comrade Ahmed Ilallah, the Summit is historic, a maiden in the history of Jigawa State, we walk all the angles of the state to put together our young farmers with government and other stakeholders to discuss and have a way forward for climate-smart agriculture.

He added that the main objective is to educate our young farmers and all other farmers on climate-smart farming and the agricultural transformation agenda of this government. To be more educative in responding to the effects of climate change, through adaptation methods and a system that is resilient to climate change.

The Jigawa State Governor, who declared the Summit open, was represented by his Technical Assistant on Agriculture, Dr. Saifullahi Umar. During his speech, he informed the participants of the numerous opportunities they have under the agricultural transformation of Malam Umar Namadi’s Administration.
