Jigawa Stakeholders Unite to Tackle Governance, Climate, and Development Challenges

A two-day strategic meeting aimed at identifying core issues affecting governance, climate change, economic growth, and social service delivery has been convened by PACE (Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement) in collaboration with the Jigawa State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

The gathering, held at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano, brought together state actors, including accountants-general, permanent secretaries, and officials from the Ministries of Environment and Budget, alongside non-state actors such as civil society organisations.

Organisers said the objective was to “facilitate a structured and inclusive stakeholder engagement process to ensure transparent and effective issue selection and prioritisation.”

The event also sought to “diagnose key challenges hindering effective service delivery” and “identify coalitions for effective citizens, state and non-state actors’ engagement and dialogue.”

PACE, funded by the FCDO, reiterated its commitment to bridging the gap between civil society and government to foster joint solutions to development concerns.

Issues raised ranged from climate adaptation measures and local economic opportunities to better governance practices.

Participants stressed the importance of building consensus and crafting policy recommendations based on grassroots realities.

“This process ensures everyone’s voice is heard,” one organiser said, adding that the recommendations will inform future interventions.

By creating this collaborative platform, PACE and its partners hope to drive measurable change in how Jigawa State addresses systemic governance and development obstacles.
