The Jigawa State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi, has approved a series of major projects and initiatives aimed at improving education, infrastructure, and economic development across the state.
The decisions were made during the Council meeting held on Monday, 14th October 2024.
In a bid to bolster educational development, the Council approved the sum of N740.79 million for the construction of classrooms, laboratories, administrative blocks, ICT labs, and workshops in selected schools.
The schools set to benefit from these projects include Government Day Science and Technical Colleges (GDSTC) in Kafin Hausa and Babura, as well as Comprehensive Government Secondary Schools (CGSSS) in Roni and Jahun.
Other schools, such as GDSTC in Gumel, GDSSS in Ringim, Dutse, and Hadejia, will also receive infrastructural upgrades.
The Council also approved a total of N624.02 million for bursary allowances for 14,269 students attending Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa; the College of Education, Gumel; Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse and Hadejia; and the College of Education and Legal Studies, Ringim.
This provision will cater for both newly interviewed and returning students for the 2023/2024 academic session.
In a move to strengthen the state’s civil service, the Council endorsed a proposal for the development of a succession plan within the Jigawa State Civil Service.
Additionally, the Council approved the creation of a budgetary provision to employ 740 new staff identified as filling critical gaps in the civil service workforce.
Furthering its commitment to infrastructure development, the Council approved N1.179 billion for various electrification projects across the state.
These include the extension of electricity, rehabilitation of sub-stations, and upgrades to 33KV ITC lines. Communities in Gwaram, Kafin Hausa, Kaugama, Kiyawa, and Kirikasamma Local Government Areas will benefit from these projects.
To drive economic growth, the Council allocated N466.73 million for the procurement of 300 modern solar-powered multi-purpose kiosks, aimed at boosting job creation and supporting small-scale businesses across the state.
In response to ongoing food security challenges, N798.28 million has been approved for the procurement of essential food commodities, including maize, millet, spaghetti, and Garin Kwaki, for emergency relief efforts.
This initiative is part of the state’s preparedness strategy for food distribution in times of crisis, as presented by the Ministry of Special Duties.
The Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, signed the press release, reiterating the state government’s dedication to improving the lives of Jigawa’s citizens through targeted investments in education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
