The Jigawa State Youth Assembly held its second sitting on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Nurses House Conference Hall in Dutse, where key issues affecting the welfare of the youth in the state were deliberated.
The session commenced with a solemn one-minute silence in honour of the victims of the tragic oil tanker explosion in Majia, Taura Local Government Area.
The Assembly expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and sympathized with those injured in the unfortunate incident.
One of the significant outcomes of the session was the establishment of a three-member committee, chaired by Hon. Bashir Aliyu Kwaimawa, representing Dutse Local Government.
The committee was tasked with finding a suitable location to serve as the permanent Secretariat for the Assembly.
According to the Assembly, having a dedicated Secretariat is essential for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of their operations.
In addition, the Assembly resolved to engage the Jigawa State Directorate of Youth Empowerment to strengthen the selection process for beneficiaries of youth empowerment programs across the state.
The Assembly believes that a more rigorous selection procedure will ensure fairness and allow deserving individuals to benefit from the programs.
Another major resolution passed was the designation of October 16 as National Mourning Day, a day set aside to commemorate the victims of the Majia fire disaster.
The Assembly plans to advocate for similar recognition from the state and national assemblies, with the hope that this observance will promote greater safety measures and awareness to prevent future occurrences of such tragedies.
“We appreciate your support and understanding as we work towards a better Jigawa State for our youth,” said Rt. Hon. Haruna Isah, Speaker of the Assembly.
“We remain committed to serving the people and look forward to your continued coverage of our activities.”
The Assembly’s second sitting marks a step forward in its efforts to address youth-related issues and contribute to the development of Jigawa State.
