Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has rejected President Bola Tinubu’s tax reforms, describing them as detrimental to national unity and poorly timed.
Speaking through Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo during a New Year celebration in Kano, Yusuf criticised the proposed reforms.
“This tax reform bill is not the solution to our economic challenges. Kano State stands firmly against any policy that negatively affects the welfare of our people,” he said.
Yusuf highlighted the struggles of Nigerians facing hyperinflation and insecurity, urging the Federal Government to focus on tackling poverty and hunger, especially in the North.
Meanwhile, the Asagba of Asaba, Prof Epiphany Azinge (SAN), also expressed concerns about the reforms.
He urged the government to prioritise public accountability and economic stability before implementing new tax policies.
