In a major political upset in Jigawa State, no fewer than 573 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sabuwar Dan Masara town, the state capital.
The dramatic switch was led by Mustapha Adamu, popularly known as Shugaba, who declared that the mass defection was fuelled by “a desire to seek a positive change” amidst worsening national hardship.
Addressing the cheering crowd, Shugaba lambasted the APC’s leadership, stating: “We can no longer continue to be part of a party that has abandoned the principles of fairness and justice.”
He praised the PDP for offering a more inclusive vision for Nigeria’s future, saying, “We are excited to join a party that is dedicated to building a better Nigeria for all its citizens.”
The defectors also expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, asserting that “the PDP will emerge victorious… and we are eager to contribute to the party’s success.”
Welcoming the new members, PDP’s deputy state chairman Umar Danjani said, “Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards building a stronger, more united party.”
He assured supporters that the PDP remained committed to “addressing the challenges facing our state and country” through inclusive policies and tireless service.
