Nigeria Begins Repatriation of Borno Refugees from Chad

BAGA SOLA, Chad – The Nigerian government has commenced the repatriation of refugees who fled Boko Haram insurgency to Chad’s Baga Sola, with 7,790 individuals set to return home in the first phase.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, led the delegation, which included Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, and Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).

Governor Zulum attended the signing of a tripartite agreement between Nigeria, Chad, and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to facilitate the voluntary repatriation.

Dr. Sununu commended Zulum’s leadership and collaboration with the federal government in ensuring the safe return of displaced Nigerians.
