The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Sokoto State Chapter, in collaboration with the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), has hosted a transformative Cancer Awareness Week from February 3rd to February 6th, 2025.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness about cancer diagnosis and care in Nigeria, featuring expert discussions on crucial topics.
The series of public lectures covered subjects such as ‘The Landscape of Cancer Care,’ ‘Cervical Cancer and HPV Vaccination,’ ‘The Role of Theranostics in Cancer Management,’ ‘Survivor Experience,’ ‘NHIA Coverage of Cancer Care in Nigeria,’ and ‘The Availability of HPV Vaccines in Sokoto.’

Additionally, a special interactive session was organised for secondary school learners, focusing on the causes, signs, and symptoms of cervical cancer, as well as the benefits of the HPV vaccine.
By educating the public and fostering a deeper understanding of cancer, the event aimed to promote preventive measures and reduce the burden of the disease in the region.

The NMA Sokoto State Chapter urges everyone to join the fight against cancer.
Through collective effort, we can make a lasting impact in reducing cancer cases and improving healthcare outcomes in Nigeria.
