More than 2,000 women and vulnerable individuals in Jigawa State have received relief support amounting to N135 million, courtesy of the state’s First Lady, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi.
The initiative aims to alleviate the impact of the recent removal of fuel subsidies on the state’s residents.
Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi stated that the funds were distributed to women from various parts of the state, acknowledging their significant role in the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in both the federal and state elections in 2023.
“Women have played a vital role, as they came out en masse and cast their votes for the APC, making the party victorious. Therefore, anything done for them is not a privilege but their right,” she emphasised.
In addition, over 250 elderly women in Jigawa benefited from N100,000 each under the New Hope Initiative scheme, spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Bola Tinubu.
This scheme is part of the federal government’s effort to recognise and reward women for their support of the APC administration at both the federal and state levels.
Hajiya Hadiza also highlighted that a further N50 million had been allocated to women in Jigawa by Senator Remi Bola Tinubu, along with support for women in agriculture through the provision of equipment such as water pumping machines.
The Jigawa State government, under Governor Umar Namadi, has prioritised women’s empowerment.
Notably, 27 women have been appointed as Special Assistants, one from each of the state’s local government areas.
Additionally, women hold key positions, including female commissioners and the only female vice chairman in Malam Madori Local Government.
Commending Governor Namadi for his support towards women in the state, Hajiya Hadiza urged women to continue backing the current administration in its efforts to achieve its goals for a prosperous Jigawa.
This support for women builds on previous initiatives, reinforcing the state’s commitment to improving the well-being and opportunities available to women across Jigawa.
