PDP Crisis Deepens as Sule Lamido Demands Expulsion of Wike, Ortom, Ikpeazu

The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated after former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, demanded the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and ex-governors Samuel Ortom of Benue and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia for allegedly working against the party during the 2023 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Lamido accused the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) of tolerating “impunity” for too long and insisted that “all those erring members… who openly campaigned against the PDP in the 2023 elections, and who say they are going to work for the APC in 2027, should be sacked from the party.”

He recalled that grievances dating back to the 2022 primaries had fuelled disloyalty, lamenting that “people… turned out against the party and fought the party.”

The former governor said the party’s constitution was clear on sanctions for anti-party conduct, adding: “In the constitution, if you breach the party’s code, you are sanctioned.”

He also announced that he would boycott Board of Trustees meetings until the alleged offenders were disciplined.

On the same day, the PDP’s NWC issued a formal warning to members endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing their actions as “a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party.”

Citing Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution, the NWC said no member should “align with other parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government.”

National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba stressed that the leadership would “issue a strong reprimand” and, if necessary, impose “stiffer sanctions” to protect the party’s electoral fortunes.

The PDP has set its national convention for 15–16 November in Ibadan, Oyo State, in what could prove a decisive moment for its internal unity.
