An explosion from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) claimed the lives of two people on Wednesday at a 200-unit housing estate under construction in Dalwa, Borno State.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 pm, coinciding with the commissioning of housing estates in Maiduguri by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni.
A source informed Channels Television that a similar explosion had occurred the previous day, though details were not available.
Dalwa, located 175 kilometres from Maiduguri, has been one of the communities devastated and displaced by Boko Haram insurgents.
Efforts to rebuild the community led Governor Zulum to initiate the construction of 200 housing units.
The explosion underscores ongoing security concerns in the region, despite reconstruction efforts to restore normalcy for displaced residents.
