The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) under the Partnership for Inclusion of Local Governance and Budget (PILGOB) has expressed deep sorrow over the recent fuel tanker explosion in Majiya, Taura Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
The tragic incident has, so far, claimed over 170 lives, while more than 200 residents of Majiya remain hospitalised.
Speaking on behalf of PILGOB, the Administrative Secretary, Comrade Ahmed Ilallah, conveyed the organisation’s heartfelt condolences to Governor Umar Namadi, the Chairman of Taura Local Government, the people of Majiya, and the entire state of Jigawa.
“It is sad for a small town like Majiya to lose so many lives,” Ilallah said, emphasising the profound impact of the disaster on the community.
PILGOB is urging all stakeholders to take proactive measures to prevent such incidents from reoccurring across Nigeria.
The organisation stressed the need for greater safety measures and public awareness campaigns to avert future tragedies of this nature.
“We pray for the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured victims,” Ilallah added in his message of support.
