POWER OUTAGE: Fault Discovered On Ugwuaji-Apir Transmission Line, Repairs To Begin Today

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has identified the fault causing the outage on the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV Double Circuit transmission line.

The fault, located in Igumale, Benue State, was discovered by a team of TCN linesmen at approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024.

The issue was traced to a snapped transmission line, spanning one section of the swampy forest in the area.

TCN has already begun preparations to mobilise the necessary equipment and materials to the site to facilitate repair work.

Due to the challenging terrain, heavy machinery, including a bulldozer and a Hiab vehicle, will be transported from TCN’s Enugu Regional Office to ensure the proper tensioning of the transmission line.

The 215-kilometre Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line tripped on Monday, 21st October 2024, causing widespread power outages across the North East, North West, and parts of the North Central regions.

Previous attempts to identify the fault were unsuccessful until today’s discovery.

TCN has reassured the public that repairs will commence immediately and thanked the government and affected electricity consumers for their patience during this period of disruption.
