Revenue Mobilisation: Federal Commissioner Meets with Jigawa’s 27 LG Chairmen

By Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

Hajiya Hauwa Umar Aliyu, the Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) representing Jigawa State, recently held a private meeting with the 27 newly appointed local government chairmen in Jigawa State.

The gathering took place at the Ministry for Local Government conference hall, and key participants included the RMAFC commissioner, senior ministry management, the chairmen of the local councils, and the state’s internal revenue board chairman.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Commissioner Hajiya Hauwa Aliyu explained that her visit aimed at building rapport with the new council leaders.

“I’m in my state to meet the new local government councils’ chairmen face to face, to familiarise ourselves for progress and for the betterment of the state and our people,” she said.

She further elaborated, “Part of my role involves working closely with the local government councils, especially at the state level, as well as representing them at the federal level. I’m here to establish a good relationship, to tell them about my work at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission in Abuja, and to let them know that I’m available to assist, support, and advise them when needed.”

Hajiya Hauwa Aliyu clarified that her visit was not connected to any federal government policies regarding local government financial autonomy or the direct disbursement of federal allocations to local councils.

“You can just term this visit as informal. It’s simply an opportunity to see my people, my colleagues, and explore ways to work together for the benefit of our state.”

The commissioner also addressed the local government chairmen, providing insights into RMAFC’s responsibilities and clearing up any questions they had about her role.

“As I mentioned, this is an informal visit,” she said, “but I took the opportunity to brief them on the Commission’s work and address any clarifications they needed regarding my office.”
