The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting a blend of sunny and cloudy conditions interspersed with thunderstorms across various regions of the country from Sunday through Tuesday, raising awareness among residents and travellers.
In its outlook released in Abuja, NiMet said sunny skies are expected to dominate northern states on Sunday, although parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa could witness thunderstorms later in the afternoon and evening.
The North-central region is also likely to see sunshine, with isolated thunderstorms predicted over Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi in the latter part of the day.
Meanwhile, the South will experience more active weather, with morning thunderstorms anticipated in Cross River, Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom, followed by additional isolated storms later in the day.

“On Monday, sunny skies with patches of cloud are expected in the northern region, with chances of morning thunderstorms in Taraba and Adamawa States,” NiMet stated, also forecasting afternoon storms in Kaduna and surrounding areas.
The central belt of the country will remain relatively dry, though storms may develop later over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, and neighbouring states.
In the South, morning thunderstorms are expected across Ondo, Ogun, and Lagos, which may extend into the afternoon across other coastal regions.
For Tuesday, NiMet anticipates clearer skies in the morning for most northern areas, but isolated thunderstorms are likely later in Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa.
Additional thunderstorm activity is forecasted in the evening across Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, and parts of Kaduna.
The North-central region is also predicted to experience sunny intervals with cloud build-up, leading to thunderstorms in some areas during the afternoon or evening.
NiMet advised the public, particularly farmers, transport operators, and event planners, to stay updated and take necessary precautions, as the seasonal transition brings about weather variability.
