Tinubu Decries Super Eagles’ Ill-Treatment In Libya, Demands CAF Action

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the poor treatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles at a Libyan airport, calling for a thorough investigation by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The team, reportedly subjected to inhumane conditions, was forced to withdraw from their scheduled match on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu urged CAF’s Disciplinary Board to investigate the incident and enforce penalties on those responsible for breaching CAF’s regulations.

He stressed that the actions taken must serve as a deterrent to prevent future occurrences.

Reflecting on the swift actions taken, the President commended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development for their collaboration, ensuring the Super Eagles’ safe return.

This isn’t the first time Nigerian football teams have faced challenges on foreign soil. In 2019, the Super Falcons endured similar mistreatment in Algeria, raising concerns about the treatment of African teams during international fixtures.

Despite the ordeal, President Tinubu praised the Super Eagles for their resilience, highlighting the importance of football as a unifying force for the country.

He called on football authorities and enthusiasts to work together to safeguard the spirit of fair play and ensure that teams are treated with respect, both on and off the field.
